The Outreach Activities for the ODD Semester June-September 2019

The Bangalore Jesuit Education Society, in association with its institutions has created the ‘Bembala Outreach Programme’. The objective of the programme is to reach out to the community with young students who can contribute through their knowledge and institutional resources. The programme effectively exposes young students to the hardships and challenges of life faced by the less privileged groups of the society. This helps in creating awareness among students and simultaneously hones their skills, impacting community life at large.
During this period (June-September 2019) the Bembala Outreach wing of SJEC planned and implemented various outreach activities.

III Semester B.B.A Students
A traffic awareness programme was held on 6th July 2019. On 6th and 7th July 2019 , the students were involved in creating awareness on the importance of saving water through display of placards at various traffic signals near college.

On 7th July 2019 , the students were taken to Home of Hope, a centre for the destitute. The Home of Hope is run by Auto Raja and family. The students involved themselves in serving lunch to the women in Home of Hope. They distributed rice, toor dal, chilli powder, tumeric powder, and other essential food and nonfood items to members of the organization. The visit was an eye-opener for many students who were unaware of the life of people living in extreme poverty.

III Semester B.C.A Students
The outreach programme for the III Semester B.C.A. students was held on 13th and 14th July 2019. The students were involved in seed ball making. On 14th July 2019 , the students were taken to Home of Hope.

III Semester B.A. (HEP)
The students had their outreach programme on 20th and 21st July 2019. The students were involved in seed ball making to help grow more trees and make a positive impact on nature. On 21st July 2019, the students were taken to Home of Hope. It was not only a healing session for students but also an invaluable life time experience for them.

III Semester B.A (JPS, and EJP)
Students of III Semester B.A. (JPS and EJP) held a seed ball making drive on 03rd and 4th August 2019. On 4th August 2019, the students were taken to Home of Hope.

II M.A. (English, and Journalism) and II M.Com
The second year postgraduate students took part in an outreach programme on August 18th, 2019. The students visited Home of Hope, an organization that nurtures orphans and old people from across Bangalore. While entering the premises, the students were divided into groups. Each group went to visit the various sections in which women and children were housed.

III Semester B.Com (Section A, B & C)
III Semester B.Com. students had their outreach programme on 24th, 25th , 31st August 2019 and 1st September 2019. On 24th of August the outreach centre in collaboration with the BBMP organized a briefing on the ban of single use plastic. The students were trained by the co-ordinators to talk with people on the streets and create awareness about the stop of plastics usage. Following this briefing, the students were encouraged to hold placards with slogans such as ‘Say No to Plastic’, and to have conversation with passers-by on the importance of refusing to use single use plastic.

On 25th August 2019, the students of III Semester B.Com A were taken to Home of Hope. It was not only a healing session for students but also an invaluable life time experience for them.

On 31st August 2019, the students of III Semester B.Com C were divided in to 2 groups. One group took initiative in campus cleanliness and another group took an initiative to collect funds for North Karnataka flood victims.

On 1st September 2019, the students of III Semester B.Com B and C were taken to Home of Hope. It was not only a healing session for students but also an invaluable life time experience for them.

The outreach programmes and awareness drives organized in the odd semester helped students contribute to society in a meaningful way. It also encouraged them to serve others and work towards the betterment of society.
