Ask any
student of St. Joseph’s Evening College on what would they
associate the Journalism Department with ….. And for sure
the prompt answer you would get would be the “LEAD CLUB”.
A complete student enterprise comprising of only the
students of Journalism, the Lead Club was established in
the year 2001. The club coordinated by the HOD of the
Department of Journalism comprises of mainly three
office-bearers the President, Vice-President and a Joint
Secretary. Each year new office bearers are selected by
democratic means. The president is always elected from the
III B.A (JPS) respectively.

- It provides a firm platform for the Journalism
students to display their talents, skills and creative
proficiency by organizing various inter-class
competitions.
- It presents students with opportunities to
understand the practicalities of Journalism as a
profession.
- It organizes Workshops, Seminars and special
lectures on various topics concerned with media and
current affairs.
- It arranges for short term courses in English,
Photography and creative writing.
- It plays an active role in exposing the students to
socio-economic realities.
- The Lead Club puts up a weekly wall journal,
consisting of articles written by journalism students.
It also produces a newsletter, in which the students
themselves are the editor and reporters.
- It arranges for media visits for the III year
students to printing presses and newspaper houses.
- It provides ample opportunities for students to do
internships in prominent media houses.
